Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) also known as South Vietnamese Army, was the ground force of Republic of Vietnam, which existed since 1955 to fall of Saigon in 1975. They were backed by the United States Armed Forces during Vietnam War, commanded by Republic of Vietnam Military Forces. They appeared in Hours of Darkness as allied soldiers and prisoners whom Wendell Redler rescues.
Overview[]
They were Vietnamese ally of the US during Vietnam war, and they will ally the player as in real life in game play alike. They have more significant role as POW you need to rescue, typically he is in middle of enemy outpost. Once you free him, he will give you intel of locations for other important Viet Cong assets like AA gun, Propaganda Speakers, enemy officers. They may be seen during free roam gameplay, fighting against Viet Cong forces, but they are usually outmatched due to sheer lack of manpower.
Trivia[]
- The badge and insignia on their arms are historically inaccurate and fictional, not belonging to any real ARVN unit.
- They continue fighting despite their forces being scattered across an area already overran by Viet Cong, unlike in real life which they would regroup and leave.
- Strangely enough, they never attempt to contact the rest of ARVN and US military even though Wendel Redler has been carrying radio along.
- In 21st century, someone in Hope County, US made an ARVN themed MP5 for commemoration.
