Carlos Montero is the patriarch of the Montero Family.

Biography[]

Before he was a guerrilla leader, he was one of the most respected tobacco farmers in Yara. Just like most farmers, he bought into the lies President Castillo fed him about making him and his family rich, only to have his land taken from underneath him and put to hard labor harvesting the so-called miracle drug known as Viviro made by Biovida while breathing in the PG-240 gas. After getting out, he became very ill but as stubborn as he was, refused any help and continued to fight the FND. He doesn't trust outsiders, especially Libertad, unlike his daughter, Espada, he is not one to leave his soldiers behind to die, and he is very distant from his son, Alejandro, who continued to buy into the false promises of the Castillos. He is filled with pride and anyone seeking his help must earn his trust, although he began to slowly gain the trust of Dani Rojas upon the destruction of the poison he was subjected to as well as his trusted men, including Miguel Delgado, being rescued. Despite being fatally ill, he is not slowing down and keeps his fighting spirit up. In Verdera, he orchestrated a rescue attempt upon learning that General José Castillo was planning to execute his men in the town square. He soon learned that his son was among the prisoners and the operation was botched from the get-go. Carlos managed to save his son from the gallows and rode away with him during the firefight but upon seeing C-4 strapped to his arm, he removed the explosives, threw his son off the horse to give him a fighting chance, and rode further off, only to be blown up with the explosive device.

At some point prior to the game, he married a woman named Lucia with whom he had his son, Alejandro, and his daughter, Camila. According to Montero Fragment I, Carlos cheated on her during their marriage and drank heavily. Despite this, she assures him that she still loves him in this letter. She died some time prior to the game of an unnamed disease.

If Dani takes the boat to leave Yara and live in the US, it is unknown what would happen to Carlos Montero.
