Clown thoughts is a note in Far Cry 5 that can be found inside a O'Hara's Haunted House that dictates the thoughts of (assumedly) O'Hara about clowns.

- Given the context in where the note is located, and the other note outside, it can be assumed that the note was written by O'Hara, although it is not actually confirmed.
- This note seems to be an obvious reference a reference to IT,[1] the seminal horror novel by Stephen King that was adapted into both a 1990 miniseries[2] and a 2017 film.[3] The title itself seems to reference the Lovecraftian horror,[4] a shapeshifter that often takes the form of a clown to lure unsuspecting children to their deaths, and the note seems to directly reference the creature IT as well.
- The red balloon nearby gives more credence to it being a reference to the former.
- Another possibility is that the note is a reference to American serial killer John Wayne Gacy,[5] who murdered at least thirty-three people, many of them teenagers.
- A successful Illinois businessman, Gacy became well known for dressing as a clown for children's parties and charitable events before his capture, and would later often paint pictures of himself in costume and full makeup while serving his life sentence.[6]
- It isn't clear when this note was written, though the opening line, "you have the fear of god", may be ostensibly directed at the Project at Eden's Gate.
