Cooler is the thirteenth level in Far Cry. The player continues to search for his companion, Valerie, in the archive complex.

Overview[]

A cargo elevator takes Jack deeper down into the next section of the archive complex, drawing him nearer to Valerie's position. All sorts of trigens are wreaking havoc in the facility. He needs to get through a battle between a Fat Boy and Elite Guards to pick up a keycard necessary to proceed further.

The mercenaries seal the way to an elevator to the lower level to confine the trigens. Jack has to find a security switch to unlock the door. He has to make his way through rooms where Fat Boys are stored in cryogenic chambers.

After pressing the switch, he calls the elevator and gets through another intense fight between the mercenaries and trigens. He seems to reach a dead end in a large room used for tanking mutagen. Doyle advises him to let seawater into the complex which should allow him to swim up to the next section. Jack turns the valve and the entire room begins to flood up to the ceiling and higher up the ventilation shaft.

Jack finally reunites with Valerie who is in the middle of a fight with the trigens. If left to her own devices, she soon runs out of ammunition and becomes defenseless. Jack helps her kill the attacking monsters. Doyle informs the two that his attempt to contact the CIA office to evacuate them has failed. He explains it by the fact that Krieger is blocking external transmissions with an electromagnetic field. They decide to sabotage Krieger's remaining communication infrastructure. Doyle arrives in a cruiser to transport them to the location.

Objectives[]

  • Go to Valerie's last known position
  • Find security switch to access the elevator
  • Flood the mutagen room to access the upper floor
  • Save Valerie

SUB-LEVEL 1[]

Maintenance access[]

The player begins in an elevator which he entered in the previous level. From the start, he is in a difficult position, as two Fat Boys are approaching him from two sides. He can utilize the explodable fuel tanks fixed to the walls to attack the mutants. A non-confrontational tactic is to quickly run into a vent shaft placed between two fuel tanks or try to bypass the mutant standing in the way to the cooling chamber. The maintenance access continues as a long tunnel where a keycard is located, but the door refuses to open fully. Thus, has to pass through the cooling chamber.

Cooling chamber[]

Cooling chamber is a blue-lit room where scientists are fighting Stealth Trigens. It can be accessed by a door or two vent shaft exits. A door to the next section requires a keycard which can be found in the long tunnel in the maintenace access. Since the previous door was malfunctioning, the player has to emerge in the very middle of the tunnel where a gunfight is taking place between 3 mercs and a Fat Boy. The keycard lies on a parapet near the Minigun.

Hologram room[]

A tall room with winding steps leading down. At the bottom there is a projector which displays a large hologram upwards visible from every corner of the room. The hologram is a rotating image presenting different types of trigens and blocks of texts as well as analytical data. This room connects main sections of the complex, such as the archives 1-8, main elevator, and the control panel. On the lower floor there is a damaged door to a section labeled as "archives 9-16".

This is where a fight between Workers and Squeakers takes place.

Archives 1-8[]

A section with a green-lit corridor which connects four rooms fitted with cryogenic chambers inside which trigens are kept in a state of stasis. The rooms to the left are labelled A, but only one is accessible. The inaccessible one can be peeked into through a partly open door and is permeated with a green gas. The rooms to the right are labelled B. In order to enter the first B room, the player needs to pass through the second room.

Control room[]

The control room has a switch which has to be used to activate the main elevator. Inside, scientists and a merc are defending their position against Monkey Trigens coming from the opposite side. The player can push a waste disposal box to use it as a cover.

Main elevator[]

The main elevator takes the player down to sub-level 2.

SUB-LEVEL 2[]

Tank room[]

A room with two huge mutagen tanks. A platform encircles the whole room from above. Mercs are fighting against two Fat Boys. The big door leads to the research chamber but has to be unlocked by a switch from the security substation.

Security substation[]

The security substation has a switch to open the big door to the research chamber. However, the player may choose to enter the observation deck instead.

Observation deck[]

The observation deck is a room overlooking the research chamber from which it is separated by a window. That window is soon broken, however, as mercs are exchanging fire with Squeakers who have taken over the research chamber. The player can jump from the observation deck down into the research chamber.

Research chamber[]

Jack reaches a dead end in the research chamber. This is a room equipped with four circular water-filled basins into which genetic material for breeding trigens is deposited. Such a procedure is performed using an apparatus called embryo nipple which delivers the substance in droplets. The room has a valve which can pump seawater in, thereby flooding the entire room. This allows Jack to reach the vent shaft in the ceiling and proceed to the next section.

Offices[]

On the other side of the vent shaft, there is a section where office work normally takes place, judging by the multiple desks and cubicles. It is now flooded up to the player's waist. The light has started to flicker due to contact with water. It is overrun by a Fat Boy and 4 Monkey Trigens, two of which are attacking Valerie who is in the last room. The last room has a door which should lead outside the complex, according to what Doyle says, but it is not available to the player.

Trivia[]

  • The text displayed by the hologram reads (the bold elements have been added for clarification):
« There is substantial evidence that blah reduces the risk of blah, in according to the research made by section 3 team.

(illegible)

tests performed on frogs do not show similar increase in physical strength as with tests performed on rats (PAUSE) the subjects exposed to XR-15 radiation combined with the (illegible) patch of mutagen show tremendous increase in physical capabilities.
hmmmmm

human subjects display only little decrease in intelligence, hand-eye co-ordination has improved substantially, type 3 subjects perform extremely well in hand to hand combat and stealth maneuvers.

according to some reports mutants have tried to escape from the holding cells but this has not been confirmed, since no video records exist; mercenary guards can hardly be trusted in these matters.
