Escape from Durgesh Prison is a DLC released on January 13, 2015, bringing a challenging gameplay to experienced players, with new features such as permanent death, survival theme, and is playable in cooperative.

Overview[]

The DLC takes place as soon as Ajay leaves Durgesh, the prison run by Yuma, and passes out cold, being the bridge to the beginning of the Valley of the Yetis DLC, since it is possible to hear soldiers talking about the relic of Yalung and expedition Yuma sent to a valley in the mountains north of Kyrat. Awakened atop of a bell tower, Ajay is greeted by Pagan saying he is in North Kyrat. He then tells Ajay of an extraction point where Amita and Sabal will pick him up by a helicopter in 30 minutes to escape North Kyrat. Ajay may opt to go straight for the extraction point but the problem is that the North is very hostile, full of Yuma's zealous soldiers and very few members of the Golden Path, unless he "beef up the arsenal". The extraction point does not have any defenses, therefore he must "do chores" for Pagan for him to reward with the defenses such as mounted gun. Ajay will be able to liberate several Outposts on the map in order to get additional skill points, crafting materials, and special weapons. In addition, he may extend the timer by completing Karma events and finding collectibles. After reaching the extraction point, Ajay will have to defend the helicopter for 10 minutes.

Interactive Map[]

Tips[]

  • Ajay will begin the journey with a fully upgraded loot bag, allowing him to carry up to 150 items.
  • He also starts with "Elephant Riding" and "Death from Above" skill.
  • Ajay will be sent back to the initial bell tower if he dies, resetting the progress made during last session. However, his equipment and skill points will be retained.
  • There are no trading posts, Sherpa, or money within the DLC. Therefore, crates are now filled with ammo instead.
  • During the helicopter defense sequence, Ajay can repair the helicopter at any time he wants. This is very handy if the player has the skill that boosts repair speed.
  • The defense sequence is actually rather easy, provided the player gets the rebel and mounted gun upgrades. The rebels are extremely tough, being nearly unkillable by enemy soliders, and they will constantly use the mounted turrets to effectively gun down advancing Royal Guard. Furthermore, the Royal Guard is almost always distracted by the rebels, so the player can mostly just stand back and do little to nothing while waiting for the ten minutes to end.
  • The helicopter itself is well-armoured and it will take lots of gunfire before exploding. However, all explosives can destroy it outright or leave it with little health, so the player must be very cautious of using explosives of any sort around the LZ. (The helicopter is so strong that it will take several hundred rounds of constant Buzzsaw fire directed at the engine to blow it up. The player has very little worry about during the defense, though stray grenades thrown by Assaulters and Chargers have a small chance of hitting the helicopter; they will deal significant damage and must be repaired immediately.)
  • It is impossible to get every skill (including thirty duration boosts from syringes) unlocked in a single playthrough. If the player wants to fully unlock all of Ajay's skills and crafting equipment, multiple playthroughs will be needed. By the end, the player should have the most powerful weapons and all skills, and tons of equipment available to him. This will make getting the missions and ultimately the entire DLC a breeze. The Buzzsaw will be nearly impossible to unlock on the first playthrough, however on subsequent playthroughs after it is obtained, it can allow Ajay to effortlessly plow through every mission and outpost within minutes. As such, make getting the Buzzsaw a top priority after two or three playthroughs.
  • Once the Buzzsaw is obtained (and provided the player has enough skills unlocked and supplies on hand), the entire mode can be beaten in mere minutes simply by driving straight to the extraction point and ignoring everything else. The Buzzsaw, being the most powerful weapon in the entire game, can instantly dispatch all the soldiers that attack the helicopter, and enemy air support. As such, the weapon is perfect for speedrunning the mode. The mode can be finished in under fifteen minutes, provided the player finds a car fast enough to drive to the helicopter.
  • Getting all crafting upgrades finished is incredibly difficult in this gamemode, as it falls soley onto luck. Rarely throughout the world, loot chests can be found that do not contain ammo. When approached, instead of the usual "Press (button) for ammo", they simply say "Press (buttom) to search". These chests always contain animal skins, and even then, they usually are regular animal skins. It is purely up to chance that these already-rare chests contain a Rare Animal Skin. Because of this, it may take several playthroughs dedicated soley to just searching chests to get all the Rare Skins that are required for the final crafting upgrades.
  • Tapirs and clouded leopards are both required for a few crafting upgrades. However, normally both of these animals are only found in Southern Kyrat. There are only one or two spots in this entire gamemode where Tapirs can be found grazing, and Clouded Leopards only spawn in a single place: by the river delta near Jalendu Temple. Throwing a piece of Bait here spawns either a Dhole, or a Clouded Leopard.
  • Karma Events have a dramatically increased spawn rate in this mode. It is not uncommon to encounter multiple in a row in the same area of the map. As such, it is wise to take advantage of this for the time bonuses they give. Mani Wheels are littered everywhere as well, however because Karma Events tend to only spawn on major roads, going out of the way to spin a Mani Wheel will be less time-efficient than just driving up and down roads waiting for Karma Events to happen.

Weapons[]

During his journey to the extraction point, Ajay will come across different signature weapons. Some of them are listed below: The Warrior, The Stinger, The HS77, The Trooper The M-700 Predator can be spawned in the following locations:

It appears that the probability of the rifle appearing increases by turning Mani Wheels (6 wheels can be enough; it is not about destroying Propaganda Posters, removing Masks of Yalung, increasing Karma or liberating outposts). See [ http://oi61.tinypic.com/2ikupmc.jpg ] for mani-wheel-locations (in red) and Predator-locations in (in green).

Oddly enough, the cut version of the A52's signature version, the ACE, can be found normally in this gamemode randomly like other signature weapons. This is the only time the weapon can be obtained at all on all platforms except PC, where mods can restore the ACE back into the game. It has higher damage, an extended mag, a scope and a unique paintjob.

The Auto-Crossbow can be spawned in the following locations (incomplete list):

The MG42 (Buzzsaw) is easily the most powerful weapon in the game and appears only once: in the fortress Rajgad Gulag. To conquer it the M-700 Predator and/or Auto-Crossbow are advised. The fortress wall cannot be scaled and must be infiltrated through a cavern system, riddled with mines that Ajay must be careful while navigating. If detected, heavy reinforcements will inbound, including 3 helicopters. Once it is obtained, it should be kept forever as it will make future playthroughs trivially easy; every single enemy in the game, even the toughest such as heavy gunners, helicopters, rhinos and bears will die within 1-5 shots. After getting all four levels of the ammo pouch crafted, Ajay can carry nearly a thousand rounds of ammo for the Buzzsaw, which only makes things easier provided the player doesn't wildly spray the weapon and waste ammo.

Technically, all non-DLC signature weapons can and will spawn throughout the game world, however finding them is incredibly difficult. The only fixed locations for any of them seems to be the Buzzsaw at Rajgad Gulag.

As a side note, most of the weapons in the game cannot be found in this game mode. The only weapons that can be found are ones dropped by enemy soldiers and Golden Path warriors, Signature Weapons placed randomly, weapons spawned inside outposts, and weapons placed near missions and randomly throughout the game world. Weapons the Desert Eagle, U100, STG-90, 1911, Skorpion, etc never spawn at all. Unfortunately, the SA-50 cannot be found anywhere, and the player's only option of a non-signature sniper rifle is the Z93 dropped by snipers or an SVD. However, the AMR and Predator both can be found in rare instances.

Bonus Times[]

The initial timer to reach the extraction point is 30 minutes, and it is possible to extend the timer by completing Karma events and finding collectibles, with each provide a different bonuses. However, doing unmoral things such as killing civilians will get penalties. The last 10 minutes will not count toward the total timer. Here are the possible bonuses:

  • Clean kill animals: 5 seconds
  • Saving hostages: 1 minute 15 seconds
  • Posters / Yalung's masks: 1 minute
  • Mani Wheels: 2 minutes 5 seconds
  • Liberated Outposts (Undetected) / (Detected): 8 minutes / 5 minutes
  • Finishing a mission: 5 minutes
  • Earning Karma: 50% of the karma point earnt in seconds (e.g. earning 50 karma point gives 25 seconds)

The player can easily rack up over an extra hour and a half just by doing all the missions and liberating every outpost undetected. Mani Wheels and Karma Events aren't worth seeking out given the time spent looking for them is longer than the time bonus the player receives. Doing this will give Ajay plenty of time to gather resources and skills.

There is a very serious glitch that affects time bonuses. When gaining a large time bonus from liberating outposts, the bonus time will immediately be lost a few seconds after the time is rewarded. For example, if liberating an outpost undetected, the usual 8 minute bonus will vanish and only five minutes will be given instead. This seems to trigger mere seconds after the reward is given, but it also seems to happen right away if the player picks up any ammo, health pack, armour, etc. (This bug has only been encountered on the PS3 version of the game, at least from the editor's experience. This bug may or may not affect other platforms and consoles.)

Missions[]

There are 5 special missions that Ajay can do for Pagan in order to get extra help for the fight at the extraction points. Upon reaching the location for each missions, Pagan will briefly radio Ajay of the current situation and requires him to finish it. If he fails the task, there will be no rewards for this session.

Yuma's Wrath - Easy / Mounted Turrets[]

There are some defectors among Pagan's army and he need Ajay to teach them a lesson. Man the grenade launchers on a cliff overlooking a river and destroys all of the boats passing by in three waves. Miss one and he will not get the reward. Occasionally, there will be guards firing at him from the other side of the river, and a helicopter will inbound during the second wave.

Bomb Defusing - Medium / Explosive Gadgets and Barrels[]

Yuma is trying to cut off the communication between Pagan's army by planting explosives near his favorite bell tower. Disarm 3 bombs to finish. If detected Ajay will have 1 minute to rush them all. The bell tower will have stairs making it convenient to finish. A helicopter will inbound after he has disarmed all the bombs.

Eye for an Eye - Hard / Gyrocopters and Body Armor, Medkits[]

Traitorous captains turning on Pagan despite him being nice to them with "Christmas's bonuses". Kill 3 captains with a knife and take their photos in Jalendu Temple. One will be on the second floor of the temple. One will be on the side with 2 other guards. The last will be under the dungeon.

Propaganda Center - Hard / Elephants and Animal Cages[]

This center did its job poorly by spelling Pagan's name with an "e" and he thinks this is Yuma's work. Destroy the center.

Hostage Rescue - Hard / Rebel Reinforcements and Guns for Hire[]

The kidnappers did a job too good and captured more hostages than Pagan can hold, for it is expensive to keep them alive. Rescue at least 2 hostages. Be careful to not release the tigers for they will kill nearby hostages.
