The series begins with Diego waking up from to his bed, upon seeing numerous gifts on his table. Anton requests his son on the intercom to meet him on the balcony. Upon meeting his father, Anton announces that they would take a journey when Diego asks him "what kind of journey?" Anton replies "The one we all have to take." Taking a Jeep off-road, Anton reminds his son of the concepts of both peace and chaos and how both can become same thing if you're not careful. When Anton asks his son if he knows what that phrase means, he replies "no," Anton then begins to tell the tale of Vaas. The flashback begins with Vaas and his sister Citra playing soccer with each other, and later that day, he begins to encounter a group of pirates before one of them gives him a bag containing pills and cocaine. When asked whether Vaas had happened to him, Anton had replied that "he continued to fall, Vaas gets into an argument with Citra for his drug addiction, although he calmly responses that he was fine.

Upon arriving at their destination, Diego asked his father why he was telling the story, he answered that he knew what his son was feeling towards him.

Diego readies his bow, but his father tells him that they'll be using it at a later time. He sits his son down for a drink of tea as they discuss his next lesson: the importance of family. He tells Diego that there is a man he should learn from; Pagan Min.

It then cuts to the night of his father's death, of which he celebrates with glee, firing a pistol into the air on a rooftop. He proposes a toast to the good news with Yuma Lau and some Triad goons present, taking a swig as he promises his henchmen that it is now their time to shine. Antón then tells Diego that it is a son's duty to carry on his father's legacy, in an unsubtle attempt to groom him towards following in his footsteps as El Presidente. He tells Diego that people will try turning him against his father, to which Diego promises that such an idea is impossible. Antón responds by telling Diego that he shouldn't promise to him, but rather to himself, as he is responsible for his own choices. Diego asks if such a thing happened to Pagan Min. Antón suggests that Pagan might not have even existed, but his legend still holds a valuable lesson. Cutting back to Pagan's stay in Hong Kong, he is chased out of a window as Antón narrates about how betrayal breeds betrayal. In this case, Pagan's involvement in the murder of his father made him a marked man. Triads hunt him down, but he manages to shoot and kill them all. One last gangster tells Pagan that Hong Kong will finish him off, to which Min replies that he himself is finished with the country, and executes the Triad. He and Yuma then burn down their family home, with Pagan specifically taking the time to torch a photo of him and his father during happier times, with Antón narrating about how a man is nothing without a family.

Antón stands up, wanting to take Diego on a tour of the wild. He tells him to not forget his bow. Diego asks where Pagan went after leaving Hong Kong. Antón tells him that he found a new nation: Kyrat. However, the consequences of his actions towards his family followed him all the way there. Diego asks his father if he has also done things that he couldn't escape from. Antón confirms he has done many such things, but the conversation is about Pagan, not him. He tells his son that Pagan's pursuit of power in this new nation rather than family helped cause his undoing. He took the throne by force, leaving a long trail of bloodshed behind him. He approaches, noticing the young prince of the Royal Family cowering near the throne. Pagan coldly reassures him that the massacre isn't his fault, and that the throne should not be reserved for a child. He approaches with a blade, of which the prince's fearful expression gleams off of it. He tells the child to close his eyes, as he prepares to execute him. With the child dead on the floor, Pagan tells himself that history will never know the truth of how he rose to power, as it will be hidden by his riches. He finally achieved what he so desperately sought after; power. It wouldn't last for long, though.

A woman was sent by the Golden Path to honey trap Pagan. However, they didn't count on her genuinely falling in love with the new king. Pagan recounts this plan one night with Ishwari, asking her if she still loved her husband. She tells him not to ask her that, but they both know the answer by now. They had a child together. Pagan started over and made his own family, in his image. Ishwari asks him to promise to protect her from the trauma he's inflicted on the nation. Antón interjects by stating that just starting anew isn't how fate works. A trail of blood is seen on the floor. Antón ominously explains to his son that if he doesn't make amends with his sins, they will come back for him in his most vulnerable moments. Lakshmana was found slain in his own kingdom by a vengeful Mohan Ghale.

Antón tells Diego to close his eyes as he prepares a slab of meat. He then tells Diego that Pagan was eventually killed by his own stepson, and tells him that it is a result of the son abandoning the father; in this case, Pagan betraying and murdering his father, and eventually Ajay defecting to the Golden Path and killing Pagan. He throws the bait at his son's feet, and tells him that he loves him, but he is nothing without his father. He tells his son to open his eyes. The bait attracted a crocodile. Diego screams for his father. However, Antón is hiding in the bushes. Diego continues to scream for help to no avail.

Issue #3: The Power of Faith[]

The crocodile prepares to attack Diego, but Antón shoots it dead with an assault rifle just in time. Diego lashes out at his father for leaving, but Antón assures him that he has always had faith in him and must never doubt his power to protect him. He then proceeds to tell Diego one more story about another man who understood the importance of faith: Joseph Seed.

The comic cuts to years ago in Rome, Georgia. A young Joseph tells his mother about a dream he had in which a voice told him something important is coming. She refuses to believe him, but he remains adamant, as the voice has told him things about their family and wants her to leave Joseph's father. Diego then asks about Joseph's visions, and Antón tells him that though he kept his faith, it isolated him from even the people who loved him most and caused him to pay a great price.

In Kansas City, an adult Joseph wakes from a nightmare in which he hurt his unborn child. His pregnant wife assures him he is nothing like his father and suggests talking about the dreams to someone, though he refuses. Some time later, while Joseph is building a crib, his wife is driving home in a snowstorm, but a deer causes her to swerve off the road and crash. At the hospital, one of the doctors informs Joseph that his wife was killed in the crash and his newborn daughter is on life support. After being directed to the hospital's chapel, Joseph fully devotes himself to listening to the voice. He mercy kills his daughter, believing she should "be with the angels," and decides to find his remaining family. Years later, Joseph and his siblings arrive in Hope County, Montana, determined to march to Eden's Gate.

Back in the present, Diego asks about Joseph's fate, to which Antón simply tells him he failed his faith. They soon head inside a jaguar's cave. Antón gives Diego his pistol and asks him to apply the lessons he's learned by killing the jaguar's cubs. Diego refuses, explaining he doesn't need to destroy something to prove his love for his father, and asks Antón to have faith in him. As they leave, Antón sent the terrified cubs fleeing from the cave, telling Diego he has a better soul than himself, but one day he will have to fight to keep it.
