« Things are starting to get interesting. Scuttlebutt says that Vaas is dead. Some kid named Jason Brody popped him. I'm impressed. Whoever takes Brody down will get some serious cred. »

Privateer gossiping

"Scuttlebutt" is a term for rumours or gossip. Saying that "The scuttlebutt is that so-and-so wants to defect" means that people are talking unkindly about so-and-so. However, because of the relative rarity of the term in modern colloquial language, some Far Cry 3 players incorrectly interpreted comments like the one quoted on this page to mean that there was a character named Scuttlebutt who served as some kind of hub of gossip.
