Far Cry 5 has 3 different endings. In the final mission of the game, Where It All Began, the player is prompted to either pick between Resist or Walk Away. There is also a secret ending in the first mission of the game, The Warrant.

Resist[]

In this ending, the Junior Deputy decides to resist Joseph Seed, which greatly angers him. Joseph forces the Deputy to fight their Bliss-hypnotized friends. After freeing everyone, Joseph attacks and causes a final confrontation in the battle. Following his defeat, as he's being arrested, Joseph will prophetically quote Luke 23:34, followed by Revelation 16:1, as nuclear bombs detonate and destroy Hope County.

With many either dying from the initial blast or being burned alive in the subsequent inferno, the Deputy drives Whitehorse, Pratt, Hudson, and Joseph to Dutch's nearby bunker. A distressed Pratt leaps into the passenger seat where Whitehorse is sitting, all while repeating "we're not gonna make it," distracting the Deputy and causing them to crash into a collapsing tree, killing all but Joseph and the Deputy. Joseph carries them into Dutch's bunker, in a scene that mirrors Dutch carrying them into the bunker at the very beginning of the game. Upon gaining full consciousness, the Deputy awakens chained to the bed, with Dutch's corpse lying beside them, presumably killed by Joseph. Joseph admits that while he should kill the Deputy for all they've done, he forgives them and shows 'mercy', saying that he can't kill them as they're the only person that he has left. He welcomes the Deputy to his family as his child.

As the credits roll, the song "We'll Meet Again" by Vera Lynn plays.

Walk Away[]

In this ending, the Junior Deputy decides to walk away, and Joseph forgives them and their friends for their transgressions. Joseph, being a man of his word, frees Pratt, Whitehorse and Hudson and lets them go at the cost of the Resistance now being under his control. However, shooting is heard as Sheriff's Department leave the compound, leaving fate of the Resistance unknown. Joseph and the rest of the Deputy's Bliss-hypnotized allies enter the church. No combat occurs, and the Deputy and their original group leave the compound.

Hudson is outraged that they would leave everyone behind like that, but Sheriff Whitehorse tells her they're all going to Missoula to get federal backup via the National Guard to help liberate Hope County from the cult by force. Pratt objects to being involved in any further activity citing what Joseph said, but Whitehorse tells him that he's gonna do exactly what he's told.

However, as they drive away, Whitehorse turns on the radio and the trigger song used by Jacob Seed, "Only You" by The Platters, starts playing, and the Deputy's vision goes hazy. Whitehorse notices the Deputy in a trance and asks them what's wrong, before the scene cuts to black and the credits roll, as the song continues playing over them.

Once the credits end, the game reloads the last auto-save.

The Warrant Secret Ending[]

Much like its predecessor Far Cry 4, there is a secret ending in the first mission of the game. Right at the moment when the Junior Deputy is directed to arrest Joseph Seed, if the player instead ignores the command prompt and waits idly at the scene for a total of 5 minutes, a secret ending will play out.

Rather than cuff the cult leader, the Sheriff calmly removes himself and his people from the scene. Marshal Cameron Burke is understandably outraged, trying to comprehend why a lawman would ignore the law, but Sheriff Whitehorse simply reiterates his earlier statement to leave the Seeds be. Burke threatens to add the entire sheriff's department to the arrest, and Whitehorse simply pushes the doors open, daring the Marshal to try.
