Origins[]

Around 2001, Crytek had been developing a game titled X-Isle, which was a tech demo/alpha project centered around dinosaurs and aliens. However, the idea was eventually abandoned. In 2002, Crytek completed the alpha version of Far Cry. In Q1 of 2003, the developers unveiled a trailer showcasing characters, physics, weapons, objects, NPCs, and AI for Far Cry. In a subsequent E3 trailer, Jack Carver is depicted alongside Valerie Constantine on the island. As the plot unfolds, Valerie is captured, revealing that the overarching story of Far Cry revolves around destroying Krieger Corporation and rescuing Valerie.

In Q3 of 2003, an E3 trailer unveiled the first mission of Far Cry. In this segment, Jack wakes up in a wrecked and stranded Akagi Carrier with Doyle communicating through the radio. The gameplay demonstrates the player's objective of reaching the top of a World War 2 fort in the mountains, destroying the radio tower. The trailer also features a cutscene where Jack is shown arming a bomb set for 15 minutes, but in an unexpected twist, the countdown only takes 15 seconds, prompting Jack to make a swift escape.

In 2004, Far Cry was released, but the final version differed from what was presented in E3 and trailers, including different maps, skyboxes, enemies, and textures.

Beta Restoration Project[]

In 2017, a modder by the name of changeroftheways planned to remake Far Cry's beta content and incorporate it into a mod known as the Beta Restoration Project. Collaborating with mvxlnm, the team dedicated a year to working on the mod together, showcasing their progress. Unfortunately, personal reasons led mvxlnm to step away from modding, leaving changeroftheways to carry on alone. Despite occasional releases of articles on beta content research, the project essentially came to a halt.

In late 2019, mvxlnm made a comeback to the project, rejoining the team, and they resumed their collaborative efforts.

During the second quarter of 2020, FarOut was enlisted into the project team to help with the scripting aspect of the mod. Shortly thereafter, Fluorescent Hallucinogen also became part of the team, taking on the responsibility of finding various builds, documentation, and pre-release screenshots of the game. The project experienced its peak productivity in 2020; however, towards the year's end, mvxlnm had to once again depart from the project due to military enlistment.

In 2021, the project team demonstrated some progress but primarily concentrated on research and the creation of research articles. Additionally, during this year, the BRP Team gained access to the E3 2002 Demo for the first time, providing a substantial amount of new material for their project. As 2021 was ending, mvxlnm made a return to the project team.

Further development path[]

Due to some personal conflicts between team members, the project split into two parts - FarOut and new team members DXMZA as well as 6607 continued to work on Beta Restoration Project, changing the vector and idea of the project development, while mvxlnm created his own, called Beta Aesthetics.

The other members, changeroftheways and Fluorescent Hallucinogen left the BRP team in mid-2022, and are no longer part of the development.
