The Fuerzas Nacionales de Defensa (English: National Defense Forces), also known as Castillo's Army or simply called the FND, is the primary enemy faction featured in Far Cry 6.

Background[]

The Fuerzas Nacionales de Defensa are the official military forces of Yara. Both men and women can serve in the force, and both genders are subjected to mandatory conscription. They are responsible for enforcing the rule of President Antón Castillo, with their very existence being crucial for his grip on Yara. Therefore, Libertad and numerous other guerilla groups are locked in a brutal protracted war against them in order to overthrow Castillo's regime. Since most Yaran citizens are subjected to mandatory military conscription, many join simply to protect and provide for their families despite not having any loyalty to the Castillo regime. This is evidenced by the numerous defected FND veterans and double agents among Libertad ranks, one of those conscripts being Dani.

If Dani Rojas joins Libertad, the Castillo regime would rapidly collapse within the later half of 2021. After the fall of the Castillo regime, the remnants of the FND refuse to surrender however, and will continue abusing civilians and fighting against Libertad across Yara. The remnants of the FND often form insurgencies and will seize back control of certain unstable areas.

If Dani takes the boat to leave Yara and live in the US, the FND is still active 3 months after Dani's departure, with its Special Forces conducting a raid on Libertad and wiping out its leadership.

Equipment and Organization[]

As the official Yaran military, FND soldiers are well-trained and equipped, and are easily distinguishable by their bright white uniforms and their clean well-kempt appearances. Depending on the rank and role of the soldier, FND troops can be seen utilizing ballistic helmets, berets, ballistic vests, balaclavas, and other military-grade gear. Numerous articles of equipment is often seen strapped across their bodies. By the events of Far Cry 6, Dani Rojas estimates the strength of the FND to be comprised of 300,000 members divided across its numerous service branches.

FND soldiers are indoctrinated into believing that certain groups of Yarans, mainly political dissidents, social outcasts, and minority groups are considered "Fake Yarans", a term coined by Castillo himself. Thus, FND soldiers are often seen being viciously authoritative to many of Yara's citizens, often torturing, robbing, and executing civilians over minor offenses. If not immediately executed, many of these outcasts are often abducted and forced to work in labor camps, mostly cultivating and harvesting the miracle-drug known as Viviro. Others are subjected to cruel experiments by some of Yara's top scientists.

High-ranking officers in the FND are often abusive to the lower raking soldiers under their command. Various notes scattered across Yara entail FND lieutenants scolding their troops for their supposed incompetence and threatening harsh repercussions. A note from Admiral Ana Benitez can be found in which she scolds a group of FND soldiers assigned to an Anti-Aircraft battery for not shooting down enough targets, and demands that the troops begin shooting down sea birds in order to meet their quotas.

Despite its massive size and well-organized military system, the FND relies mostly on Soviet-era weapons and equipment due to difficulties importing modern military equipment into the country. Vehicles such as the 1944 Petrov HS-100 main battle tank and the MiG-17 fighter jet, while providing a massive advantage over Yara's many rebel groups, are considered outdated and obsolete by most modern-day militaries. The Yaran navy is mostly comprised of frigates, patrol boats, and repurposed cargo vessels, all also originally manufactured during the Soviet-era. Patrolling FND soldiers often utilize horses due to the lack of available motorized vehicles.

In addition to this, the FND has taken different locations through legal or illegal means to convert them into Military Bases, in such a way that in addition to Legitimate military bases they also occupy (among other things) a Steel Plant, Television Studios, Theme Park of Dinosaurs, a Cathedral, a Coffee plant and even Yara University.

The FND is divided into various branches akin to a conventional military, there is the (FDN) Fuerza de Defensa Navales (Naval defense force, or the FND Navy) commanded by Benítez who holds the rank of Admiral and is the only one known to hold this rank, there is (FDA) Feurzas de Defensa Aereas (Air defense forces, or the FND Airforce) commanded by General José Castillo, there is the (FDT) Fuerzas de Defensa de Tierra (Land defense forces, or the FND Army) commanded by General Raúl "Old Dog" Sánchez ,there is the (CBM) Brigadas Mecanizadas (Mechanized Brigades, or the FND Armored Brigades) commanded by an unidentified general, however due to the fact that the majority of real life armored divisions are part of the army and the similarities between the emblems of the Brigadas Mecanizadas and Fuerzas de Defensa de Tierra hint at the armored divisions being an independant subcategory of the Army, there are secret services (Secret Services FND) controlled by Maria Marquessa, and finally the Special forces who are presumably under the command of Jose Castillo or some other unknown air force general due to the FDA markings on their armbands.

There are also ministers of defense, agriculture, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Food Import Export and Firearms Distribution, Ministry of Sport...

Soldier[]

2 White stripes

1 White stripe (Assault)

Any soldier, an example is the assault soldiers.

The rank of a soldier can be seen by scanning any soldier with your cellphone. Feurzas de Defensa Aereas pilots are divided into levels, each pilot when enlisted, receives their flight license, the level 1 license (Class 1 ) must be renewed each year and is given to cadets (Calixto Carbonell) of the Feurzas de Defensa Aereas. a license example The low-ranking officers of the FND, the sergeants the lieutenant and the captains are characters that can be found around the map, found in the notes or enemies in some missions. The most common rank to find is the sergeant and most of the officers are assigned to regions and have roles and goals, there is a small percentage of sergeants and keep that they are generated randomly and do not have a sex or a specific class (Not everybody) but only the name. Some of them have keys to open deposits full of weapons and tools. Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains are easily recognizable thanks to their uniform details that are different from a normal soldier, but it is not the only thing to distinguish them from a normal soldier, in fact they are more resiliant than the the rest of the soldiers in the FND.

Trivia[]

  • The FND is based on the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces and Cuban Revolutionary Air and Air Defense Force.
  • The FND is the best equipped enemy faction in terms of weapons, equipment, manpower and vehicles, especially compared to the Royal Army and Privateers due to being a legitimize national military force before its fall. This is especially true for the FND Special Forces operators which despite having a less manpower compared to other branches, they posses much more experienced, advanced weaponry, better equipment, improved motorized vehicles, better training, and use crafty tactics. They are also the first enemy faction to have tanks, fighter jets, and actual warships (rather than small patrol gun boats) as well as one of few that are consisted of both male and female members that are serving in equal numbers.
  • They are also the most militarily organized of any of the enemy factions in the previous games, as they are divided into multiple service branches that are common in many other national armed forces such as Naval Forces, Ground Forces, and Air Forces. They also have officers with much higher military rankings, such as Admiral, Colonel, and General.
  • The FND consists of both conscripts and volunteers, similar to how Royal Army conscripts the people of Kyrat into their armed forces and unlike the Privateers who are all-male recruits that came from mercenary, ex-veteran, inexperienced fighter backgrounds.
  • They also the first faction to have an enemy type that uses chemical weapon in form of the FND Fumigators.
  • Both the Royal Guard and FND Special Forces have an almost identical arsenal of weapons and equipment. The difference is that the Royal Guard have more troops than the FND Special Forces due to the fact the Royal Guard are mostly made up of Pagan Min's Triad men followers and foreign mercenaries with the potential of recruits from the Royal Army. Nonetheless the FND Special Forces make up the number lost by better tactics with combat experience.
  • The FND Ground Forces and Air Forces appear to have similar numbers to that of the Royal Army. The difference is that the FND as a whole is better equipped than even the Royal Guard of the North of Kyrat, since the Royal Guard only have jeeps with machine guns, .50 cals or automatic grenade launchers with a shield to protect the gunner and armor plates on each side of the technical trucks, helicopters, RHIBs, and small armored patrol boats around the river. While the FND possesses much more advanced weaponry, equipment and vehicles such as tanks, warships, jeeps, armored jeeps, horses, as well as more varied roles such as Medics, Vanguards, Engineers, Fumigators & Special Forces operators. FND soldiers have access to a wide range of weaponry that can range from assault rifles and shotguns to chemical sprayers and EMP grenades, while the Royal Guard are only equipped with standard assault rifles, SMGs, sniper rifles, etc....
  • FND Special Forces are most common when the player maxes out their WANTED level (with both bars next to their radar on the bottom left corner of the screen filled in red) by killing FND troops, destroying FND property, and killing unarmed NPCs/civilians, or when venturing into high security areas such as upper Esperanza, and when on alert they may will slowly track down and hunt players for as long their top section of the WANTED meter is filled red or the player leaves the general area that they are searching and lays low.
  • The unnamed militarized cargo ships are mostly based on Rio De Damuji class frigates that are operated by the Cuban Revolutionary Navy.
  • Despite appearing in the trailers twice, the FND Riot Soldiers don't appear in the game.
  • It's likely that they are actually FND Heavy Gunners in riot gear, pretending to fill the role of crowd control and quickly showed their true colors after the riot by switching back to ballistic shields and light machineguns.
  • In early development, the FND had commando-like melee enemies with machetes and knuckles as seen in one early draft who would behave like Melee chargers in previous games. The FND Riot Soldiers would supposedly be their high-tier variant, whose combat style is similar to Highwaymen Brawlers.
  • FND Assaulters also appear to be originally intended to wear helmets as seen in almost all trailers and in some cutscenes, they can also only be seen in game in the opening prologue while Dani and Lita are escaping from Esperanza, it is unknown why this was changed.
  • The FND Vanguards were originally intended to have their highest tier and/or elite variant wielding SPAS-12 shotgun as seen in one early design, but this was changed or cut during development.
  • Most of the vehicles and aircraft used by the FND were manufactured between the 1940s to early 2010s (mostly due to economic sanction from many countries) despite their superior tactic and arms than the other factions in the Far Cry series, with exception of the Mercenaries in Far Cry 1.
  • Security cameras are first seen in FC6, they are a real enemy but can be considered as enemy equipment. (Other Equipment ^)
  • There is a paint for the horses which is the one used by the FND officers, the description says, but it has never been seen used by any officer.
  • Most of the FND's equipment is of Russian/Soviet)'s origin such as a ground vehicles (2012 KAG T.G., 1963 Jengo Peccary, 1951 Yuri 151, 1944 Petrov HS-100, based on the GAZ Tigr, UAZ 31512, ZiL 131 and the T-55 tank respectively) helicopters (1968 Garin Vorona C based on the Mi-8), guns (with some exception such as the Skorpion (Czech Republic), Mark IV (United Kingdom), M1887 (American) ane Yaran SR-A (Yaran)). The real Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces that inspired the FND, has many Soviet-designed equipment as well.
  • During "Mambo Yarano", Rosa Mel mentions General Miguel, it is not known if he is or was an active general of the regime, perhaps he could be the anonymous General in charge of the Mechanized Brigades
