- This mission contain several references to the 1985 film Rocky IV:
- The mission's name comes from the quote "I must break you", which is said by the film's main antagonist, Ivan Drago, to the main protagonist Rocky Balboa prior to their boxing fight.
- The song that plays when Rex rides the Battle Dragon is called "War" by Vince DiCola, which also plays during the film's climactic boxing fight between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago.
- When Slone tells Rex that he is his father and Rex lets out a long and horrified "No!" in denial, it is a reference to the famous plot twist in the 1980 film Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, when Darth Vader reveals to Luke Skywalker that he is his father.
- When Dr. Darling looks behind with purple eyes and a sinister gaze, it is a reference to the ending of the 1983 music video to Michael Jackson's Thriller, when Michael Jackson turns to the camera and grins, revealing his werecat eyes.
