Sergeant James Kenneth was Wendell "Cowboy" Redler's unit leader during the Vietnam War.

Hours of Darkness[]

During the Vietnam War James Kenneth was the leader of the gunship unit Python 2, serving as the first member, Python 2-1.

During a helicopter ride, his helicopter was shot down, and he was captured along with Cowboy and his Squad Mates. Cowboy and Kenneth were brought to the same POW camp. Kenneth was the first to be interrogated, but he refused to give information on his mission. He is executed by his captors so they can bring his body in the jungle and lure a panther to presumably capture it, as many panthers can be seen in cages throughout the DLC. Before they can do this, they are bombed by U.S. jets, and Cowboy escapes from his captivity.

Trivia[]

  • During the introduction while being interrogated, Sgt. Kenneth follows the standard Code of the United State Fighting Forces, article five, that rules that a captured service member's name, rank, service number, and date of birth is all they are required to divulge.[1]
    • Likely due to Ubisoft Shanghai's unfamiliarity with the United States' version of the Geneva Convention code that the former was modified from, Sgt. Kenneth does not include his date of birth in the information he provides, making the speech erroneous.
  • Even though he clearly continued answering them, the Viet Cong guerrilla recklessly told him to shut up and executed him without further questioning, and even "reasoned" (in Vietnamese language) that they "did not have prison" so they should use his body as bait to lure panther.
    • Realistically, a sergeant would add more weight on negotiation table in Viet Cong's favor, these soldiers severely disobeyed various orders and rules at once, especially the 2 crucial rules: immediately inform and hand over prisoners to superiors (cấp trên), and "no light at night" as that would attract enemy aircrafts. The latter proved fatal when disobeyed, as they lighted a campfire and exposed their position to US aircraft, led to their death by airstrikes.
  • Since everything were from the imagination and memories of Wendell Redler, he may have remembered it wrong, or not being entirely honest to The Junior Deputy, likely to cope with James Kenneth death by airstrikes from his own side.
  • Due to a translation error, in the subtitles he is referred to as Sargeant and not the correct spelling of Sergeant.
  • Sgt. Kenneth is incorrectly shown with the sleeve insignia of a US Army Specialist (E-4) instead of the insignia of a Sergeant (E-5).
  • His character model is the same as the the seventh male playable character on the character creation, with the 4th hair style colored brown.
  • His character model is reused as the second playable character in Co-op mode.
