Matto 4 is a Far Cry mod created by MattoMedia, and is also the sequel of Matto 3.

Plot

Awaking

After the events of Matto 3, Jack Carver (NOT Jack from the original Far Cry story) ends up in an ARM surgery room, where three doctors try to resuscitate him, but are unsuccessful.

Jack then wakes up all injured and covered with scars from bullets after being shot by the mysterious man, Jack gets up and decides to find out what happened. He takes a card that gives access to the locker room, he finally puts on his clothes, and goes to an elevator.

However, the elevator stops working, and Jack ends up leaving through the elevator's emergency exit and entering the ventilation ducts. On the way he encounters a CIA agent, Boris, who is setting up a bomb. Boris then turns around pointing his gun at Jack who is holding a squeegee of pasta, Jack and Boris are scared, and Boris thought that Jack had died.

Jack takes Boris' pistol, and Boris states that they need to go to the control room, but ARM soldiers appear, as they are neutralized by Jack and Boris. Finally they arrive at the control room, Boris enters the username Trinity (a reference to the name of the character from the Matrix film franchise), Jack, upon realizing this, had thought Boris was a girl, and Boris manages to hack a door that leads access to security rooms.

Boris will stay in the room in charge of security systems, and while Jack will go to a computer room where he can open an emergency trap door that gives access to the pipes.

However, several ARM soldiers appear and ambush Jack, he manages to defend himself and the trapdoor opens, and Jack enters.

Jack manages to escape the ARM soldiers, and ends up in the sewer system, and he comes across several mercenaries. Jack enters some kind of warehouse, and finds a door that is locked and she needs a key.

After finding the key, he finally opens the door and finds another sewer area with several ARM soldiers. Jack ends up trapped by ARM soldiers, he manages to kill all the henchmen.

Jack finds Boris at a door that is locked, and Jack picks up some explosives, and after that he blows up the door, and picks up another bomb that explodes a wall, which according to Boris, he claims is the way out. However, Jack plants the explosives and discovers that it is not the way out, and Boris felt stupid for choosing that.

Then, the two go to a door where they end up entering the warehouse that gives access to the offices and a cave. Jack and Boris after killing several ARM soldiers, they find a tow truck that still works, and Jack finds an access card.

Boris finally starts the truck and puts on some music, and Jack starts to question Boris about what he's doing at the ARM base. Boris explains that after Jack failed last night's mission, the CIA began an emergency operation, and that they needed to rescue Jack, and caused a massacre inside the base, Jack questions that there are more CIA agents on the island, and Boris mentions all names: Paul, John, Harry, William, James, Matthew, Peter, Ben, Stan, Eric, Kyle, Kenny, Terrance and Ashley. Jack upon noticing Ashley's name, Boris mentions that she was Jack's dream girl.

As they are getting to the exit, a HUMVEE comes up behind their truck, and they open fire on the car. Jack and Boris manage to reach the exit and kill all the soldiers, Boris then orders Jack to find more CIA agents, and said that the commander is in a temple waiting for him, and while Boris decides to plant more bombs in the base, Jack leaves by the elevator that gives access to a jungle.

Mission: Steal the Prototype

Jack finally leaves the base and enters the jungle, fresh air and so on. Jack takes a boat and heads towards a river where he ends up finding an empty shack, and ends up meeting Ashley, who is waiting for him. Ashley tells him that there is a ARM, where there's a helicopter to lead Jack to CIA temple base.

Jack and Ashley go to the camp through the jungle where several ARM soldiers are on the way, and finally arrive at the camp, Jack and Ashley enter through the ducts and Jack plants a grenade on the pig that ends up blowing up the alarm system.

After they finally kill all the soldiers, they manage to take the helicopter, and fly over to the CIA base. Ashley starts asking Jack questions about the mission to recover the weapon, and Jack said that he didn't remember and forgot what the mission was, Ashley then reveals that the mission was to get a prototype weapon called the X850, and she explains that she should take Watch out for Ethan Black, the president of ARM. Jack said he remembers him, and reveals that he was the one who shot him during the mission.

Ashley questions what Jack intends to do when the mission is over, and he says he wants to spend a happy life with Ashley on a tropical island. Jack and Ashley finally arrive at the CIA base, and he meets with the commander, and explains that the rescue mission was a success. Jack then decides to continue the mission to get the X850 weapon, and questions where Ashley might be, and the CIA commander informs him that she is going to get Boris. Jack and the commander hear Ashley's distress call on the radio, and warns that the helicopter has been shot down, and so they need to rescue. However, their position has been compromised, and ARM soldiers have just arrived with helicopters and CIA finally resist the attack.

The commander orders Jack to go rescue Ashley to a temple, and Jack enters the temple.

Saving Agent Ashley

On the way to rescue Ashley, Jack finds two MP7s, and he discovers ARM soldiers in the temple looking for Jack, and he uses all his acrobatic skills against them all. Jack finally finds the way out of the temple and takes a boat to the riverbank and he finds an ARM camp, and after Jack kills all the goons, he hears Ethan Black's voice over the radio, and Jack fires his gun over the radio.

Jack enters a cave and he goes inside and then finds a way out of the cave, observes smoke in the distance on the beach and reveals it to be Ashley's downed helicopter. And he arrives at the crash site with several of Ethan's henchmen, and they finally manage to defeat them.

While Ashley bathes in the waterfall, a coconut from a palm tree ends up falling on Jack's head, leaving him unconscious. Ashley sees Jack down, and then helps him up, she reveals that she has an entrance to the ARM compound, and they enter the entrance through the sewer system and they split up. Jack goes to the weapons lab where the X850 is, and he enters the complex.

Revenge Accomplished

Jack infiltrates the complex and contacts Ashley via radio, how he can get to the weapons laboratory, and she states that the laboratory is underground in the complex, and Jack needs to find a way to get in.

He passes a container warehouse and Ashley helps him with a container that ends up knocking over a grate. Jack tries to enter the door, but it is locked, and she comes up with a plan B, Jack climbs onto a platform that goes straight to the rooftops, he finally enters the weapons laboratory.

Jack enters the lab, and Ashley marks the position of the X850 on Jack's PDA, and wishes him good luck, He enters an armory and he finally finds what he's looking for: The X850 Prototype. And suddenly a voice appears behind him, and reveals itself to be Ethan Black watching him from behind.

Ethan reveals that he was the one who shot Jack during the mission, and insinuates that he is a fool because trying to infiltrate the advanced weapons lab would be so easy, and explains that the weapon is just a defected prototype. Jack tries to shoot him, but the weapon didn't work, Jack drops the gun on the ground, and ends up accidentally firing it. Ethan is shocked by what he sees, and then orders all of his soldiers to kill Jack and recover the gun.

Jack contacts Ashley, and says that the X850 is with him now, and Ashley orders him to blow up the lab, and claims to have a generator room nearby. Jack finds a forklift armed with an explosive and goes to the generator room. On the way he hears Ethan's voice over the megaphone, orders him to surrender, and Jack begins to mock him.

He arrives at the generator room, and sets up the bomb, and asks Ashley how he can get out of the building, and Ashley responds that the exit is through the cliffs, Jack begins to annihilate all of Ethan's soldiers one by one and he reaches the cliffs. , and he hands the X850 to Ashley who arrives by helicopter along with Boris, however, Ethan and his soldiers appear and Jack orders the two to go while Jack deals with Ethan.

Ethan and Jack face to face, he orders Jack to return the prototype, but Jack refuses, Ethan and Jack pull out their pistols pointing at each other and fire, but the bullet from Jack's pistol hits the bullet from Ethan's pistol, and Ethan orders his men to eliminate Jack, but nothing was a match for him.

Jack finally kills all the henchmen, blocking all the exits, and gets to Ethan, he manages to reach him, Jack gives Ethan his last words, and Jack shoots Ethan many times, killing him instantly.

He finally accomplishes his mission, and he leaves in a helicopter with Ashley, and the bomb that was in the generator room explodes, destroying the ARM base.

Trivia

• This is one of the most difficult mods in Far Cry.
• Just like the previous mod, it contains many references to the Matrix.
• When Boris mentions the names of the CIA agents who are at the ARM base. The names "Stan, Eric, Kyle and Kenny" are a reference to the protagonists of the adult-dark comedy cartoon South Park: Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, Kyle Broflovski, and Kenny McCormick.
• In the "Temple" mission, when the slow motion sequence starts, the music played is radio edit version of the song "Pistolero" by Juno Reactor, composer of the Matrix films.
