Montana, otherwise abbreviated to MT, is a state in the United States. Hope County is located within it and serves as the setting for Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, Inside Eden's Gate and Far Cry Absolution. All of the characters in Far Cry 5 are from the United States and the vast majority from Montana.
Far Cry 5[]
During the events of Far Cry 5, Hope County, Montana falls under the tyrannical influence of the Project at Eden's Gate cult, who exert their control by forcefully converting the county's populace.
Far Cry New Dawn[]
Far Cry New Dawn takes place in Montana 17 years after Far Cry 5's resist ending.

- Montana is the first real world location for a game to take place in.
- While the United States and Montana are real locations, Hope County is fictional.
- During the Prologue mission, Cameron Burke tells the Junior Deputy that by driving northeast, they can reach Missoula "in a few hours" and get help, implying that in Far Cry, Hope County situates itself within the vicinity of the real-world Lolo National Forest and the Bitterroot Mountain Range.
- In Far Cry, it's implied that Hope County is somewhere in the the southwest of Missoula County, although in real life Montana, the southwest of Missoula County is only bordered to Mineral County, Ravalli County and State of Idaho.
