Pre-Alpha

The Pre-Alpha refers to a stage in Far Cry 3's development.

The Pre-Alpha dates back to 2011 but may be even older, with early development perhaps dating back to 2010.

This build of the game is drastically different, as it sports Cut characters, Cut animals, Cut mechanics, Cut locations and even a Cut storyline!

Footage on YouTube can be found of this build, but mainly through popular gaming related channels/ accounts. (IGN etc)

This build is shown in the 2011 E3 Presentation, as it was the only playable build that could be shown off to the public.

Story Differences

Through videos on YouTube, we can roughly piece together certain parts of this game's cut story.

Originally, Willis would have been introduced to the player much earlier on, as we can see Jason communicating with him over the phone, before our player approaches The medusa, and then proceeding with The Medusas call. After officially completing the mission, Willis tells us that he can now contact your friend 'Vince', who contains no missions relating to him in the final game apart from a few lines of dialogue from and about him.

Upon completing the mission, Jason is seen driving towards a lighthouse while again talking to Willis on the phone, when they both have a conversation.

Jason - " Willis! Shit, im hurt"

Willis - "Get your butt to Dr.Earnhardt, He'll fix you up. Look, the crazy bastard paints his house everyday, but trust me you cant miss it."

Upon reaching Earnhardt's mansion, he talks to us about his different medicines, and sends us on the mission "Mushrooms of the deep".

In the trailer Earnhardt appears different in both the way he acts/ speaks, but also the way he dresses. He speaks in a more passive aggressive manor at times. He also wears predominately green and white, compared to blue and pink.

Cut weapons

Jason's Watch is clearly visible in this promotional image

So far one unused weapon has been found ,leftover in the game files. Probably from 2011.

The weapons name was going to be the Mk.23.

It appears to be based off of a HK USP pistol.

Trivia:

• This build can be accessed and played at home, as skillful developers/ hackers were able to gain access to the necessary files.
• The files can only be run on an Xbox360, more specifically a RGH or Jtag version of the console. I.e hacking is required.
• The files can be found on the internet, and can be found on Hidden palace. http://upload.hiddenpalace.org/Main_Page
• This build is most well known for the fact that Jason Brody has an entirely different voice actor, and wears a watch which makes his Tatau less visible. Perhaps indicating that Jason would be more mature, and capable of suppressing the Rakyat's influence.
