History of Far Cry's development[]

Around 2001, Crytek had been developing a game titled X-Isle, which was a tech demo/alpha project centered around dinosaurs and aliens. However, the idea was eventually abandoned. In 2002, Crytek completed the alpha version of Far Cry. In Q1 of 2003, the developers unveiled a trailer showcasing characters, physics, weapons, objects, NPCs, and AI for Far Cry. In a subsequent E3 trailer, Jack Carver is depicted alongside Valerie Constantine on the island. As the plot unfolds, Valerie is captured, revealing that the overarching story of Far Cry revolves around destroying Krieger Corporation and rescuing Valerie.

In Q3 of 2003, an E3 trailer unveiled the first mission of Far Cry. In this segment, Jack wakes up in a wrecked and stranded Akagi Carrier with Doyle communicating through the radio. The gameplay demonstrates the player's objective of reaching the top of a World War 2 fort in the mountains, destroying the radio tower. The trailer also features a cutscene where Jack is shown arming a bomb set for 15 minutes, but in an unexpected twist, the countdown only takes 15 seconds, prompting Jack to make a swift escape.

In 2004, Far Cry was released, but the final version differed from what was presented in E3 and trailers, including different maps, skyboxes, enemies, and textures.
