Doyle, answering Jack about the research in the facility

Research is the fifth level in Far Cry.

Overview[]

After dropping off Jack, Doyle explains he is unable to transport him to the other side of the island where the Bunker is located and Valerie being kept, as they could be spotted by a radar system. Jack, therefore, is forced to make his way through the research facilities. When asked, Doyle refuses to explain what kind of research is conducted there.

Upon entering a cave, Crowe can be heard stating through a radio transmitter that no more reinforcements will be sent to fight the intruder and that "whatever's happening there can't be as bad as what's happening here". As soon as Jack passes the gate to the seawater pumping station, he hears a strange noise. A cutscene shows a panicked mercenary being killed by a gorilla-like creature in a cave tunnel. The player can find the victim's body at the end of the tunnel.

Suddenly, an explosion occurs further into the cave and the lights go out. Jack is advised to look for an elevator, which, however, will be non-functional until the power is restored. He finds a regulator and turns the lights back on.

Jack remarks that this place is "total chaos", to which Doyle answers with a suspicion that the destruction of the communications center[1] "caused mayhem throughout all the islands. The Trigens must have taken this opportunity to escape." Just before the elevator stops and its doors open, Jack sees two of these creatures escaping the room through a ventilation shaft leaving two dead Workers behind in a pool of blood. The player is unable to hit them. The level ends when Jack comes near the exit door.
