Radio News Broadcasts[]

Act 1[]

"In other news, the fighting around the city of Port Selao intensified today – bands of rebels clashed in the streets and twelve civilians were reported killed. With more now, we go to journalist Reuben Oluwagembi..."

"Both factions have declared an advantage in this. The latest and most violent skirmish in the ongoing unrest. Leaders from both sides have called for a troop withdrawal from the city centre, but there have been gunfire thoughout the night and no sign that this conflict will be ending anytime soon. British and American officials warn that economic sanctions are possible. Without a functioning government to respond, it seems the likely target for any measures will be [the] dis-shadowed nation’s own citizens."

"Both the United Front and the APR have suspended talks via international mediators. Today, troops fire tear-gas to scatter authenticity supporters, during today’s demonstration. Local warlords Oliver Tambossa and Addi Mbantuwe continue to trade barbs over the current state of the conflict, with each blaming the other for the unrest. Leading NGOs are calling for immediate humanitarian relief for the estimated ten thousand civilians trapped within these borders, but so far, no outside agencies has been granted permission to enter the country."

"...and that is the latest from Port Selao. Thank you Reuben Oluwagembi."

Act 2[]

"And now, for an update on the worsening situation in southern district of Bowa-Seko, freelance reporter Reuben Oluwagembi. Reuben, how bad is the fighting there? Is it true that uniform militia are not doing anything to stop the conflict, and in some cases are actually engaged in the looting?"

"At this stage, it is difficult to know for certain what is happening. The situation on ground is chaotic at best. The only source of information is the radio, and it is wholly owned by the UFLL, so any news there has a distinct propaganda slant. What I can tell you is relief agencies are trying despe-rately to provide medical support and humanitarian aid, to the civilians, who are bearing the brunt; of this conflict. It shows no sign of ending anytime soon."

"Violence erupted today after faction leaders an-nounced that they were abandoning talks over a possible power sharing agreement – hundreds of gunmen, took to the streets on roads, turning the larger towns into war zones. Both sides have repeated widespread attacks on [their] supporters, with each claiming the other other as the aggressor. After advisories were issued by many of their governments, westerners are arriving at ports and airfields on [demand] for immediate evacuation."

"From Port Selao, Reuben Oluwagembi."
