The Revolution of 1967 was a revolution against the Yaran government by a group of revolutionaries led by Santos Espinosa and the Legends of 67. The result was the death of President Gabriel Castillo followed by a steep decline of Yara's welfare.
Prelude[]
Yara was a prosperous country that was considered the jewel of the Caribbean under the presidency of Gabriel Castillo. Famous people and politicians from around the world came to witness the beauty of Yaran culture. This came at the cost of their freedom as Castillo ruled with a tyrannical iron grip.[1] A communist professor named Santos Espinosa would spread ideas that were deemed problematic by the Castillo regime and was exiled for accusations of brainwashing Yarans. Espinosa would return from his exile with support from the Soviet Union and backing from guerrilla fighters.
Events[]
The revolutionaries would storm the beaches of Yara in an epic battle where many of Castillo's forces were killed. El Tigre, declared the "Fist of the Revolution," and his friends would gain prominence among the guerrillas. The fighting would culminate into sieging Esperanza, the capital of Yara. The revolutionaries defeated Castillo and executed him in front of his son, Antón. Espinosa, the succeeding Yaran President, was accused of giving Yara over to Communist idealists and opportunistic parasites.[1]
Aftermath[]
After the death of Gabriel Castillo, Yara fell into an economic decline due the incompetence of the Espinosa Communist Regime. International sanctions made it a nation stuck in time.[2] Antón would be raised by his mother who instilled in him the fact everything his father built was destroyed by Santos, he pleaded to "rebuild paradise".[1] Antón was imprisoned at the age of 13 and endured 15 years of heavy labor, pruning tobacco until he was 28 years old. Antón would later be elected president and would tighten an authoritarian grip over his reclaimed country.[2]
