Russia, full name Russian Federation, is a country in east Europe and north Asia, that is mentioned in most of the Far Cry games. They were previously Soviet Union, or at least the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic within it. Numerous weapons in the games also originated from this country. Back in the Cold War, as the Soviet Union they supported communist revolutions in Vietnam, Cuba and Yara, namely Vietnam War and Yara's Revolution of 1967.

In one possible ending of Far Cry 5 and New Dawn, after rampant waves of terrorism domestically and WW3 abroad, Russia and the rest of the world collapsed as WW3 escalated into full scale nuclear war. It's unknown how post-apocalyptic survivors rebuilt Russia, although their efforts certainly start at their underground metro in Moscow as it was built to withstand nuclear war.

In Far Cry 6, the world including Russia were not destroyed in 2018, and Russian citizens were still traveling to Yara as of 2021.

After 1967, Soviet Union relations with Yara might have been somehow damaged by the incompetent Yaran leader Santos Espinosa, hence the absolute isolation of Yara without any embassy nor consulate of any country, as American embargoes cannot stop other countries from maintaining formal diplomatic relations. Santos might have caused irreparable damages to the point that other communist countries including Soviet Union all withdrawn their embassies and cut relations with Yara. After the fall of Soviet Union in 1991, the Russian Federation does not resume relations with Yara, as there is no Cold War era Soviet embassy anywhere in the country, and no new Russian Federation embassy either.

During the Cold War, the Soviet Union got involved in supernatural researches as seen in Stranger Things. In 21st century, the Russian Federation resumed their researches as seen in The Vanishing of Far Cry 6, which they concluded that it's too dangerous to continue.

While the Russian researchers appeared as enemies of Dani Rojas, it's unwise to kill them however, as they would fight against the supernatural enemies. Without them, the supernatural enemies can surround and overwhelm Dani Rojas. The Russian researchers use local Yaran weapons such as flamethrowers and old AK-47 instead of 21st century Russian weapons, likely because they are just researchers and not officially from Russian military.
