Sefapane (IPA: /sɛfə'pɑneɪ/) is a location in Far Cry 2. It is a town located in the northwestern sector of the Bowa-Seko district and one of the three cease-fire zones in the game, the other being Pala and Mosate Selao.

History[]

Before the war started, it was most likely just a small, low class city. The presence of a train station and the fact that Sefapane is near a river suggests that the town was probably a major trading hub in the UAC and saw goods flowing through it regularly. It was most likely the gateway between Bowa-Seko and Leboa-Sako as it sits at a pretty strategic location between the two districts.

Layout[]

This is the second town the player encounters in the game and the first he arrives in after entering Bowa-Seko. It is majority-controlled by whichever faction saved the player at the end of Act I, while the other faction seems to have a minor presence in it. Comparing it to Pala, Sefapane seems to be much more well-off as it features a more developed road network, colonial-style brick homes and a few apartment buildings. Sefapane is also much less cramped and dense compared to Pala.

The centre of Sefapane features the town's most notable building – a large church complete with an accessible church tower. The tower can be entered and provides a good vantage point over the city. There's also a restricted zone next to the APR headquarters that contains a vehicle and an abandoned train station by the road to the north.

Role in-game[]

The player first arrives in Sefapane after crashing a rally and killing the opposition faction leader under the orders either Nick Greaves (if allied with the APR) or Hector Voorhees (if allied with the UFLL). Afterwards the player is given a briefing on a false-flag operation they're supposed to commit in Mosate Selao.

If you subvert one mission in Bowa-Seko, one of the player's buddies and the player must kill everyone in this town after blowing up a garage. This is a good time to retrieve the diamond in the church tower.

Trivia[]

  • The town has a few accessible buildings, one of which is a church tower, this tower contains a diamond case and is also an excellent vantage point for sniping, should that be the choice of the player to carry out the assassination missions assigned to this location.
  • During the garage sabotage subverted mission, there's a hill at the eastern side of the town, that can also be an excellent sniping point to cover your buddy, however it is recommended that you go with a semi-automatic sniper rifle, like the AS50 or the Dragunov SVD, due to the great amount of enemies that will be present during the mission.
  • The name for the town likely comes from the Northern Sotho word "Sefapano" meaning "cross." This could refer to the fact Sefapane is at a crossroads between Leboa-Sako and Mosate Selao, or it could also be a literal reference to the church located in town.
  • Enemies will not respawn after killing them all, making Sefapane safe to explore and even enter a restricted building without trouble. They will only respawn if you leave the area.
