Plot[]

Rex tells Dr. Darling that he thinks he's ready to head to the temple in order to obtain the Killstar, and asks her what she knows about the place. Dr. Darling tells Rex that the area only opens for the worthy, and has some remarkable properties. Dragon blood is supercharged inside of it, leading her to suspect that it's a ley-line hub and is thus rife with energy output. Dr. Darling warns Rex that the place is filled with death. Rex asks what kind of death, and Dr. Darling responds to him that it's the dangerous kind of death.

Rex proceeds to head inside of the temple, and as he's about to enter, a haunted voice ominously shouts out "Test your might!". Rex enters the portal, and finds himself in a parallel dimension. The haunted voice says that only those who survive the Labyrinth are worthy of the prize. Rex finds out that he's been stripped of all of his weapons and gear. The haunted voice then tells Rex to prepare for combat, and the first door to the arena opens. A weapon appears in the middle of the arena, which is the A.J.M. 9 with the Larger Mag attachment. Rex grabs it, and begins to fight an onslaught of Running Deads. After Rex fends off all of the waves of Running Dead, the haunted voice tells him that he's done well so far, but that it's just the beginning. The second door opens, and Rex heads off to the next arena. Once he reaches the second arena, another weapon appears, which is the Galleria 1991 with the Extended Mag attachment. Rex deals with another wave of Running Dead, and once he manages to fend them off, the door to the third and final arena opens. Once Rex reaches the final arena, the weapon that appears is the Kobracon with the Aim Stabilizer, High-Powered Scope, and Explosive Ammo attachments. A huge onslaught of Running Dead start to attack Rex and the slow rate of fire of the Kobracon despite its attachments proves to be ineffective in dealing with the sheer number of Running Dead coming towards him. Luckily, another weapon appears, which is none other than the Terror 4000 minigun. With the Terror 4000 in hand, Rex mows down all of the Running Dead, and proves himself worthy of the Killstar. The door to the Killstar opens and as Rex slowly climbs up the stairs to the altar where the Killstar resides, a bodiless voice tells Rex that he is a warrior and that he's proven himself worthy of the Killstar.

Rex then reaches the altar and grabs ahold of the Killstar. Rex then contacts Dr. Darling, telling her that he has obtained the Killstar and is ready to settle the score against Sloan. Rex heads on over to Dr. Darling's place to show her the Killstar in person. However, the HUD detects that Rex's body has elevated body temperature, causing Rex to feel very hot as a result of his body not being used to handle the Killstar's energy. Dr. Darling tells Rex that his nervous system and muscles need to be taught how to properly channel the Killstar. Rex laments that it should've been Spider wielding the Killstar, but Dr. Darling tells Rex that if he can't do it with him, do it for him. Rex tells Dr. Darling that he needs to even the score not just for Spider, but for humanity.

Rex then trains vigorously in order to prepare his body for handling the sheer power of the Killstar. Dr. Darling and the scientists overlook and observe Rex's training as he does various training exercises, such as the finger extension, running on the treadmill, weightlifting, pull-ups, and push-ups. At first, he struggles with the Killstar, accidentally killing a scientist during target practice. Eventually, he starts to excel in his workout routines, and eventually is able to control the Killstar properly during target practice, slicing the Sloan dummy in half with ease.

As Rex and Dr. Darling look at each other with the sun rising in the background, Dr. Darling tells Rex that he's come so far, but something tells her that he's still holding back. Rex reassures her that he won't be holding back anymore, and the two kiss. Rex and Dr. Darling then have sex, as Dr. Darling tells Rex that she wants to be blinded by his cyber-love. Afterwards, Dr. Darling noted how gentle Rex was during their lovemaking session. Rex remarks about some of the parts of his body, such as his organs, bones, and blood being 85% synthetic, but Dr. Darling tells him that he's still 100% man for at least the parts of his body that matter. Dr. Darling then asks Rex if this is truly it, with Rex responding to her that it is not and that he needs to kill Sloan before he can fire rockets on every continent in the world. Dr. Darling tells Rex that Sloan is a monster, and if his plan succeeds and his rockets hit every continent in the world, everyone will become infected, reverting them to prehistoric savages, society suffers a collapse, and the world will enter a new stone age where what emerges will no longer be human. Rex says to her that Sloan thinks that he is doing the world a favor, but he is as well when he kills him first. Dr. Darling then goes on top of Rex and kisses him, saying that he's saved her before, but now it's time for him to save the world.

Rex then awakens from his sleep, only to notice that Dr. Darling has gone missing. Rex then finds a disc in her place instead, inserting it into his cybereye and begins to play it. As the HUD tells Rex that new parameters have been enabled and to standby for new objectives, the disc starts its playback. Dr. Darling tells Rex that if he's hearing this, something has happened to her. She tells him that before she met him, she thought she would never love a man again. She then says that while he still thinks of himself as less than human, he carries something more precious than his $1 billion worth of military-spec hardware, and more powerful than the hydrogen-energy cell in his chest: a human soul and her heart. Dr. Darling then tells Rex that with the Killstar equipped, his arm now has the capability to open up the high-security bunker inside of the Danko compound in order to confront Sloan and kill him once and for all. As Rex ties up his headband with the sunset in the background, his HUD tells him his objective: Breach Danko compound and access high security bunker. Dr. Darling's concluding words to Rex is to not do it for her, but for world peace. With a determined look in his eyes, Rex prepares for his assault on Sloan's base.

Trivia[]

  • This mission contain several references to the fighting game series Mortal Kombat:
    • When Rex is about to enter the temple, a haunted voice says "Test your might!", which references the mini-game of the same name that is featured in most games in the series, where the player must rapidly push multiple buttons until the gauge next to their character has passed a certain point, and then would have to press the Block button to strike a block of increasing hardness.
  • When Rex obtains the Killstar, he exclaims "I got the touch...I got the power... YEAH!". This is a reference to the opening lyrics of the song "The Touch" by Stan Bush, which is the main theme song of the 1986 film The Transformers: The Movie.
