Yetis are featured animals in Far Cry 4 found only in "The Valley of the Yetis". They also appear in Far Cry 5 in "Far Cry Arcade," the DLCs "Lost On Mars," and as zombie yetis on "Dead Living Zombies."

Description[]

Yetis are an ancient species of ape-like animals that live in the hidden Valley of the Yetis. While being a myth in Nepal, in Kyrat numerous people encountered them.

They are very aggressive and feared creatures that will attack anything that provokes them with extremely powerful attacks, and they can endure any heavy weapon. Ajay first encounters a yeti after escaping Durgesh Prison, but passes out before the creature could get any closer. Ajay is then sent north of Kyrat and into the mountains to find something called "The Relic", which turns out to be a glowing yellow tree that emits a yellow gas and yellow, or orange spores. Inhalation of the Relic's gas turns people mad: they begin to hear voices and see visions, and eventually are said to transform into Yetis. A religious cult called the Disciples processed the product of the Relic into a liquid called "the Elixir". Which they force feed to people so they become Yetis, which the Disciples revere.

The Golden Path have only heard rumors that the Relic could be a powerful weapon that Yuma Lau sought and planned to use against Pagan Min. The Golden Path then sent Ajay and his pilot Sukhwinder to the Valley of the Yetis in order to retrieve it, but their helicopter is shot down by the Disciples and crashed onto a ridge above the hidden valley. Ajay wakes up from the wreckage to find his pilot missing, and starts hearing radio chatter from the Disciples, a religious cult inhabiting the valley. About how they've kidnapped Sukhwinder and have isolated the valley from the outside world. Eventually, Ajay begins to see that the Lost Valley's caves are filled with luminescent fungi & ape-like statues. Which the Disciples claim are depictions of Yalung. After attempting to rescue his pilot, Ajay is knocked out and witnesses his pilot killed by a huge, ape-like monster. His first true encounter with the Yeti is in the sacrificial cave. Where it is feasting on human flesh. Later on, Ajay finds that the Yetis are being worshiped, and feared by the Disciples. Whom they call "The Awakened". Ajay encounters the Yetis the more he explores the valley, and they prove to be more powerful than any animal he's ever fought.

Appearance[]

Standing taller than a man, the Yetis have greyish fur with a strange orange scaring on their chests and parts of their faces. Those found in the final mission of the DLC have white fur. Their face is a mixture of human & simian features. With ape like hands, feet, and large eyes.

Combat[]

Yetis are very resilient to any firearm, including heavy weapons. When enraged they charge on all fours proving to be incredibly fast and knock over vehicles. The best way to kill one is to aim for their heads which will disorient them, then go behind them to perform a takedown which will kill them instantly.

In-game tip

A recommended weapon is the AMR which will kill them with a single shot and does not require Ajay to perform a takedown. The AMR is a signature weapon (A Signature Version of a Z93 sniper rifle) that can also be found within the Valley of the Yetis.

Although Yetis have high resistance towards most weapons. They can simply be run over, and will die on impact.

Origins[]

According to the expedition journals. Some witnessed the Yetis drinking water from the hot springs. Which contained the orange glowing fungi from the relic. After analyzing the strange substance, men from the camp site started drinking this liquid, and began feeling high & more powerful. Which in turn made them more and more addicted to it. Side effects included screaming, hallucination, extreme aggression and inflammation around the faces and orange eyes. As a result, the men hid away in caves and began to mutate, which the Disciples call "Awakening". Finally over an unknown period of time they evolved into Yetis.

Much earlier in Kyrat's history, in the year of 1665. The road to the valley was cut off, and destroyed because the Fungi was believed by the people. To be a dark gift from the demonic entity known as Yalung. So out of fear they destroyed the pass, allowing the yetis to fade into myth and legend. It seems that judging by the bodies those who drink the elixir undergo a mutated transformation within a dark environment. Evident from the bodies in the relic shrine. There’s a chance that the chosen can die during the mutation process. Those who survive the process evolve into yetis, but are put into a very primitive state of mind. Relying entirely on instinct to hunt and kill anyone, or anything in their path.

According to notes of some of the Sandesh soldiers in the valley. To turn a person into a Yeti without drinking anything. You need to collect some elixir and distill it. So an odor is emitted, and once inhaled. It begins to make people start to suffer from hallucinations, and ultimately become Yetis. Even if it is much more time consuming as with Digvijay, a civilian that was rescued by Ajay. Digvijay has hallucinations and voices in his head, similar to the changes, but only slower. Possibly, the Disciples made this process to delay their own transformation because their skin is mottled with orange scarring. And the ultimate goal of those who follow Sandesh is to turn into an Awakened one. Which would occur in due time.

Tips & Trivia[]

  • The best weapon to use against Yetis, are the AMR signature sniper. it instant kills a Yeti.
  • High ground is advised when meeting a yeti as they cannot jump, the do however throw big rocks at you, that will bring you and your health down.
  • Yeti’s have trouble moving from side to side quickly. So it’s advised to flee into the trees, and zig zag to slow them down
  • Despite the Disciples veneration of Yetis, they still actively try to kill Yetis just like any other predator they encounter in the wild instead of fleeing or hiding, likely because the Elixir has made them aggressive and bloodthirsty to the point of not sparing those whom they venerate.
  • It is unknown how long a yeti’s lifespan is, but given that the relic is said to grant immortality. Then it might be possible that the yetis do not die from old age
  • Notes from a hunter can be found in the valley, and they reveal his discovery of the yeti’s true origins
  • While anyone can possibly become a yeti. No female yeti’s have been sighted in the valley
  • It is unknown what happened to Kamala, the daughter of a farmer who was kidnapped.
  • It is unknown if the yetis are real or not, the orange smoke that they emit when they despawn suggests that they are not real and is just a hallucination, however the yeti that killed the pilot and the silhouette of the yeti that appeared in the main story is most likely real.
  • A Yeti will always get marked on the minimap if within range. No matter if it is marked by the camera or not.
  • On "Far Cry Arcade" the yeti will chase only the player when the player aggravates it, regardless if other NPC aggrevates it, unless the player goes to a spot where the yeti can't attack. If it's chasing an NPC and the player aggrevates it, it will target the player instead of the NPC. It is unknown why this happens.
  • On "Far Cry Arcade," there's a glitch in which when the yeti grabs an NPC, the player will sometimes get softlocked and lose their gun while the yeti strangely slides across the floor playing the grab NPC animation. After the animation ends, the player will instantly die unless the yeti dies during the animation. If it does die, then the player will still be softlocked, until they leave or get killed by something else. The glitch maybe caused by the animation and the targeting player activating at the same time.
